Home Questions for YOU!
October 1st, 2009 | Posted by in UncategorizedA few questions we have and want your feedback…. you can leave a comment, or send us a message, but we are curious!
1. How old were you when you first owned a home?
2. What did you start out in? (apt. house. mobile home etc.)
3. Did you ever regret taking that step into home owning?
4. Has it caused more or less stress for you vs. renting (if you did rent)?
5. What kind of down payment did you have (5%, 10%, 20% etc. not actual amounts)?
6. Did you take your time and look around a lot, or did you jump right in when you found something that fit?
We’ve looked at MLS since before we got married, checking out whats available, seeing what’s around etc. We are not sure when we’ll buy, or what our plan looks like, but we are getting to a point in our life where we are also sure we don’t want to rent forever! Since we’ve been married (2.5 years) we have lived in 3 places – we do want to move out of the apt. but then we want to stay put for a while. So feeling out all of our options, renting, buying… living with parents (jk)! But curious what your experiences were like!

So to answer your questions, here goes, we were married a year and a half before we bought our first house. Yes it was a mobile but it was cheap and on it’s own land. It was small but cheaper than renting anything and it afforded me to be able to stay home while raising a young family. Can’t remember what we put down though.
Here are our answers:
1. We were 26 when we first bought a home, and had been married for three years.
2. We started out in a unit in a triplex.
3. No regrets with home owning.
4. More stress sometimes but definitely more perks – building equity, doing what you want with the space, working towards actually owning something, no worries about landlord relationships/issues or getting the boot! Actually, the stressful part was only buying the place; once we had gone through that process it was just like paying rent, except to yourself!
5. Down payment of 25% to avoid….something (I can’t remember). However, we wouldn’t have been able to do that kind of down payment without help from my grandpa who gave us an interest-free loan.
6. We didn’t have time to look around because we had to be out of our rental quickly. However, I’m the kind of person who likes to get things done quickly and get re-settled, so even if we had had time, I’m sure we would have gotten through it rather quickly anyway.
Hope it helps!
